Happy Polar Bear 2010

Molly wore her swimsuit but I wouldn't let her take her coat or hat off! She did take off her polar fleece pants and we carried her, running into the water as a family. She loved it and was very brave as she got splashed with cold water from the other Polar Bears. As you can tell from this photo, she thought the whole thing was very fun. Maybe next year, I'll let her wade in up to her knees. But I'm still making her wear the coat and hat! ;)

Happy Christmas Eve

After a festive evening and leaving cookies and carrots out for Santa et al, Molly finally went to bed. And she was asleep by 10pm!

Carousel 2009

What a fun day we had! Fueled by the treats left by St. Nicholas, we went to Seattle Center to see the holiday train and play at the Fun Forest. We also made it to Westlake for our annual ride on the Holiday Carousel. Remember last year?

Happy Halloween

And the winner is......SUPER GIRL! After dressing up as a unicorn at Pumpkin Prowl and for Village trick-or-treating, a princess (a striped one) at the preschool party, Molly announced today at 2:00 that she was going to be Super Girl. She was happy with how the costume turned out. I was happy that I had a whole bunch of red felt left over from last year's beach ball costume.

First Day - Part 2

You may notice the different purple dress. This had been in the purple Dora backpack that we brought to school. So this was my biggest fear -- Molly will have an 'accident' and it will traumatize her for life, she'll never want to go back, and I'll get a stern talking-to about Molly not being potty-trained. (Which she has been for several months but recently has been having 'accidents'.) Molly said "I had an accident. That's okay." And the teacher said brightly "Her purple dress is in the bag. It didn't happen until the end of the day. We'll work on it."

Phew.

As far as I can figure out, Molly learned two things. She learned how to sing the goodbye song. "Goodbye, Jack! We'll see you next time!". And she learned how to whisper. "Gato is a fish and you shouldn't touch him because (sotto voice) he's a very quiet fish". Then Molly took a bite of her special first-day-of-school-pink-cookie and whispered "This is a very quiet cookie."

What a great day.

First Day - Part 1

Molly woke up this morning and said "Can I go to preschool?". Good timing, I thought. She remained optimistic for most of the morning (except when we had to stop reading books to get ready for school). When we arrived, Teacher Natalie told Molly that everybody uses the potty and washes their hands when they get to school. She said "Do you want to go use the potty?". And Molly jumped up and shouted "YES!" with gusto.

When we got into the potty, she did great but I noticed a HUGE insect on the floor. Keep in mind that her preschool is in a park and the bathroom doors are often open so this is probably a daily thing. I thought she'd freak out (because I probably would've if I wasn't trying to be 'cool') but she looked at it and said "There's an ant at my preschool!". I explained that ants want to learn things, too. Molly was fine with that.

Pickup is in a few hours. Stay tuned...

Molly starts preschool on Thursday!

We're gearing up for preschool around here. Trying to get the excitement of "school!" without the scariness of "school!". It's a challenge but I think Molly's looking forward to it. Mostly.
